South Dakota’s Athletic Achievements Shine at Drake Relays

Celebrating yet another stellar performance, Anna Willis from the University of South Dakota set a remarkable new record in the women’s pole vault at the Drake Relays. The event, held annually in Des Moines, Iowa, saw Willis not only break the USD’s outdoor school record but also set a new mark for the Drake Relays by clearing a height of 15-2 ¼.

This accomplishment highlights the prowess of South Dakota’s athletes on the national stage. As Willis soared to new heights, her achievement brought pride to the USD Coyotes, reinforcing the strength and determination that the state’s athletes possess. Bre Dunn also showcased her exceptional talent by breaking the one-minute barrier in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 59.65 seconds. Another star performer was Kenya Harris, who leaped into lights by securing the sixth position on USD’s all-time list for the triple jump. Caelan Harland contributed to South Dakota’s success story by winning the men’s pole vault competition with a height of 18-3. This victory places Harland fourth in USD’s history books, showcasing the elite level of talent nurtured within South Dakota’s athletic programs. The women’s 4×200 relay team also put in a commendable performance, finishing fourth with a time of 1:39.16, which ranks sixth in school history. In the men’s events, Evan Janzen showcased his speed in the 400-meters, finishing tenth with a time of 47.68. Alongside him, Mason Sindelar also placed tenth in the men’s 800-meters, clocking a time of 1:50.82, further adding to USD’s presence at the event.

Brandon Vander Sluis made his mark in the men’s shot put, finishing fifth with an impressive throw of 59-2. Meanwhile, Dutch Neuweiler captured victory in the University/College division pole vault, clearing 17-1 and rounding up a fantastic display by the Coyotes at the Drake Relays.
