In a landmark initiative, the University of South Dakota (USD) Athletic Department has introduced a transformative approach to support collegiate sports in Vermillion, South Dakota. The new giving model, aptly named The Yote Fund, promises to be a holistic and unified strategy for involving the dedicated Coyote supporters in the university’s athletic success.

Ben LeCompte, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and Chief Revenue Officer, explained the ambitious model’s impact, saying, “This is a transformational time in college athletics and donor support and engagement mean more than it ever has. My team and I are extremely excited to launch the Yote Fund and help USD Athletics reach new philanthropic milestones. The holistic model will ensure we recognize every generous dollar that supports our student-athletes.”

The Yote Fund represents a structured and streamlined approach, consolidating various support mechanisms under one overarching program. This inclusive approach integrates well-known programs, such as the Howling Pack Scholarship Fund, and introduces new benefit levels known as the Yote Fund Membership Levels.

Unlocking a Year of Support: The Yote Fund Structure

One of the novel aspects of The Yote Fund is its membership levels, which lock in for an entire fiscal year from July 1st to June 30th. This influence extends to all areas such as Excellence Funds and Endowment giving, thereby fostering comprehensive involvement from the community and alumni alike.

The planned launch for these new membership levels is July 1, 2025. At this juncture, supporters will receive their corresponding level based on their contributions from the previous fiscal year. As the Yote Fund level increases, so do the benefits awarded to these dedicated supporters, encouraging continued and increasing support from the community.

The Yote Leadership Society: Premier Recognition

In addition to the foundational changes, USD Athletics is also proud to announce the creation of the Yote Leadership Society. This prestigious society is dedicated to recognizing the university’s most significant and loyal contributors. Membership into this exclusive group requires total giving of $10,000 or more, unlocking a pathway of recognition through Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond statuses depending on the supporter’s contributions.

The Yote Leadership Society not only honors contributors but also offers them exclusive benefits, enriching their involvement with USD Athletics. Members’ impacts are highlighted both in athletic and academic avenues, thus extending the influence of their contributions.

The Heart of South Dakota: Community and Athletics

South Dakota, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich heritage, is also home to communities with profound dedication to the local collegiate sports scene. The Yote Fund is not simply a new model; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of South Dakota—highlighting how collective support can propel USD Athletics to new heights while embedding a sense of pride and achievement across the state.

USD Athletics has long been a source of pride for Vermillion and the broader region, and initiatives like The Yote Fund symbolize a continued commitment to excellence for both student-athletes and the supportive community.
