VERMILLION, S.D. – May 2, 2025 – At the University of South Dakota, the excitement is palpable as the Coyotes women’s basketball team, under the stewardship of coach Carrie Eighmey, proudly welcomes South Dakota native Grace Peterson to its 2025 recruiting class.
Grace Peterson, a 6-0 forward from the vibrant city of Sioux Falls, has left an indelible mark on South Dakota’s high school basketball scene. Her journey through the corridors of Washington High School has been nothing short of illustrious, earning her a South Dakota Class AA all-tournament nod by the end of her senior season.

Peterson’s high school career statistics are a testament to her prowess on the court. Over 93 varsity games, she amassed an impressive 891 points, 429 rebounds, and 99 assists. During her senior year alone, she averaged 12 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, consistently demonstrating her ability to influence the game both offensively and defensively.
Her accolades include being named the 2025 Class AA Spirit of Su honoree, an award given to a senior who exemplifies excellence in athletics, leadership, character, sportsmanship, and academics. Additionally, Peterson is South Dakota’s No. 1 ranked athlete in the Class of 2025 by Prep Hoops, a reflection of her formidable talents and dedication to the sport.
Beyond her sporting achievements, Peterson is an academic powerhouse, earning academic all-state honors and being a proud member of the National Honor Society. Her commitment to her education is unwavering as she plans to major in education at the University of South Dakota, intending to inspire the next generation just as she was inspired.
