VERMILLION, S.D. — In the heart of the Midwest, where wide prairies meet a rich cultural heritage, the South Dakota Coyotes women’s tennis team faced a formidable challenge on April 10, 2026. The USD Tennis Courts, nestled in Vermillion, S.D., provided a picturesque backdrop as the Coyotes took on the Omaha Mavericks in a competitive Summit League match.

The match, which also marked Senior Day, was a special occasion for South Dakota as it was a moment to honor and celebrate the contributions of the team’s seniors. Selena Bird and Anna Medvyedyeva, key players for the Coyotes, were recognized for their outstanding dedication and achievements both on and off the court. Omaha’s Dominance in Doubles

Omaha began the day with a strong performance in doubles play. The tandem of Katelynn Kock and Nina Wiese secured a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles position, defeating the Coyotes’ own Kayleigh Didderiens and Cassy Marra. Meanwhile, Omaha’s Jacqueline Pearsall and Shelby Smith clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Natal Alves De Lima and Anna Medvyedyeva.

The No. 3 doubles match, featuring Selena Bird and Ava Doddridge, was left unfinished, yet it showcased the competitive energy and determination that defines Coyotes’ players.

Hard-Fought Singles Play

In singles competition, Omaha extended their lead with four straight-set victories. Katelynn Kock continued her impressive performance, defeating Medvyedyeva 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles spot. Shelby Smith, Jacqueline Pearsall, and Corinne Barber also notched wins for Omaha, maintaining their team’s momentum.

The standout match of the day was at No. 2 singles, where South Dakota’s Kayleigh Didderiens and Omaha’s Nina Wiese engaged in an exhilarating three-set duel. Didderiens captured the opening set 6-3, displaying her skill and tenacity. However, Wiese rallied to take the match tiebreak with a narrow 10-8 victory, securing another point for Omaha.
