MEN’S BASKETBALL TRIUMPH: SOUTH DAKOTA MINES SECURES VICTORY OVER CHADRON STATE

RAPID CITY, S.D. – In an exciting showcase of resilience and skill, the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers men’s basketball team clinched a thrilling 53-47 victory over Chadron State. The victory on January 28, 2025, marked their third consecutive win and their fourth win in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) this season.

The Hardrockers relied heavily on Mac Terry, who led the team in scoring with 17 points, shooting a remarkable 6-11 from the field and 5-8 from the three-point line. Terry’s outstanding performance was instrumental during the second half when he nailed a pivotal three-pointer securing a slight lead for his team.

Tre Dowdell was another key player, contributing 15 points and an impressive four assists. His two critical free throws with just 9.6 seconds remaining helped ensure the Hardrockers’ victory. Meanwhile, Keagen Smith demonstrated excellent defensive skills by grabbing nine rebounds, providing four assists, and executing two steals.

The tense atmosphere reached its peak when the game was tied at 32 with just under 14 minutes remaining. As time ticked away, every single move became crucial. Chadron State briefly seized the lead at 47-44 when Dalton Peterson sank a memorable three-pointer with just over two minutes to play.

South Dakota Mines, however, showed no signs of backing down. With less than a minute to play, they forced a critical shot clock violation, a testament to their robust defensive strategy. This interruption paved the way for Terry’s spectacular three-pointer, which put the Hardrockers ahead 49-47.
